Black Sun Rising

Every new journal entry I try doing something different, to learn, to experiment, this  piece is one such.

The background was a collage with tissue papers and then stippled with colors. I used various stamps by Andy Skinner and stencils by Seth Apter to add further texture. I used same colors as background but in various tints to maintain uniformity.

The foreground panel was done with copier paper and modelling paste applied though Tim Holtz stencil. The entire piece was painted with steampunk copper by Finnabair followed by DecoArt Antiquing Cream in Patina. Once Cream (aka paint) dried you can rub with damp cloth, more you rub lesser the distress effect. I highlighted the raised surfaces with Finnabair waxes.

The focal point is layered piece. The rays were done on deli paper which had some texture already. I applied ItsyBitsy fiber paste and painted it black. Once dry I applied various Stampendous embossing powder followed by washes in green and black. Center of sun was built using texture paste through Seth Apter's stencil, rust pastes was then applied. To add interest beads were stuck using matte medium.

After assembling gold color scribbles was added using fineliner bottle. I added equal portion of gold paint and gloss medium to create liquid consistency.

Peek into the jungle beyond - Week 10

This week SimonsaysStamp Monday challenge was to "Add some green", I combined that with Gwen Lafleur  "Interactive ATC" workshop to create this gorgeous project. I wanted to recreate an old Indian fort window with lovely outer frame and lattice work shutters  for a long time but was blocked on what to add underneath the shutters. Finally I was able to draw the beautiful jungle using different shades of green Distress Oxide and posca pens. The parrots were printed and collaged (Image Credit - freepik) The doodle stencils from Craftangles and Mudra were used to create the topmost layer and were colored with posca pens. The red arch of the window was stamped with Mudra stamp and colored along with  yellow background using DistressOxide . The lattice work was done using Gel paste and Craftangles stencil. Distress glazes in Fossilized Amber and Tattered Rose were added when the paste was wet. When the paste was dry it was heat embossed and the background ...
